# Groups

> Trade inside a private group of people you know, with its own listings, rules, and moderators.

A group is a private corner of the Marketplace. Listings posted to a group are visible only to its members, and gift cards can only be traded in groups that allow them. Groups are under **Marketplace → Groups**. Each plan allows a certain number of groups per account, counting ones you create and ones you join; see [Plans and limits](/plans-and-limits).

## Create a group

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the form">
    On the Groups page, click **Create group**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe it">
    Enter a name and, if you like, a description and rules. Rules are shown to members on the group page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Decide how people get in">
    Set a **Join code** if you want to share an invite link but still gate who can use it. Leave it empty to let anyone with the link join.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose whether to allow gift cards">
    Gift card trades carry more risk, so they're off by default. Tick **Allow gift cards** to permit them in this group.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Create group**. You become the group's admin.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Invite members

There are no email invites. On the group page, click **Copy join link** and send it to people. If the group has a join code, tell them that too. Admins and moderators can also add someone directly with **Add member**, by their marketplace username, with an optional alias for the group.

When someone opens the link, they see the group's size and listing count, enter the join code if there is one, and can pick a nickname that's shown instead of their username inside the group. Three wrong join codes in a row pause attempts for ten seconds.

## Roles

| Role | Can |
| - | - |
| Admin | Edit the group, change roles and aliases, add and remove anyone |
| Moderator | Add and remove members, view and resolve complaints |
| Member | Post and browse listings, message other members |

The person who created the group is its admin. A group always keeps at least one admin; the last one can't leave or be removed. Open **Manage members** on the group page to change roles, edit aliases, or remove people.

## Leaving and disputes

Leaving a group, or being removed, takes your listings out of that group. A listing with nowhere else to show is deleted.

Admins and moderators see a **Disputes** button on the group page. It lists reports members have filed about conversations inside the group, so they can be reviewed and resolved. See [Reporting a user](/marketplace/messages#reporting-a-user).

Groups can't be deleted by users. If a group has run its course, remove the members or leave it.
